I have wanted to create large nature-based photography abstracts for more than a decade. Despite all evidence to the contrary, we think of photography as a medium for registering, witnessing, what “is.” But I am all about the eye of the beholder. That is, the camera is not doing the seeing here. The camera is a tool. My eye, my brain, my heart, my emotions make the image. I connect what I see to what I bring with me. I have manipulated my images from the day I first set foot in the darkroom, in 1982 or so, and continue to do so. That’s not the same as using artificial intelligence to make images. At this time I don’t use AI for photography, though that is also just a tool. What you see here is photography that I have digitally manipulated to express what it tells me. The show is printed large (24×36, 20×40, 30×40) and on metal, which is the ultimate medium for clarity, color, and durability.
